Adrien’s Story
The TADWA team worked alongside Adrien’s family to design and build a modified bike with attendant control, giving him the opportunity to ride safely and comfortably with his parents. The bike includes tailored postural supports and allows his parents to assist with steering, braking and propelling – enabling Adrien to join family rides on local community paths.
Adrien is an energetic and cheerful four-year-old from Leda with a genuine zest for life. He has Lissencephaly, a neurological condition associated with differences in muscle tone and movement, and has previously relied on an attendant-propelled manual wheelchair for mobility. Riding a standard bike isn’t possible due to coordination challenges, so a modified bike was recommended to support both his physical needs and participation in everyday activities.
Now, Adrien can ride alongside his brother, family and peers – taking part in shared experiences and building confidence through movement.
Adrien’s mum, Belinda, says the bike has made a meaningful difference:
“Adrien is a happy child – he always does his best and tries his hardest at everything he does. He can now include bike rides with his brother as part of his everyday life. He’s more included in general, and the bike has supported him in many ways, including contributing to his walking progress.”
