After nearly seven years at the helm, Technology for Ageing and Disability WA (TADWA) CEO, Steve Pretzel, has announced he will not be seeking an extension of his contract when it expires in July 2024.
Mr Pretzel joined the Western Australian not-for-profit organisation in 2017 and has steered the organisation through the transition from state-funded to federal programs in the aged care and disability sectors, expanding TADWA’s range of services, placing it on a more commercial footing and nearly doubling its revenue in the seven years of his tenure.
According to Mr Pretzel the decision to leave was both personal and professional. “I have other projects I want to pursue while I still have the energy – but also from a professional stance, I feel that seven years is a good tenure for a CEO. It’s enough time to fully understand the organisation and have a positive impact, but it also avoids the risk of becoming stale and too comfortable.”
“Organisations also need different styles of leadership as they evolve, and the type of leader needed at one point in the organisation’s journey is often not the style needed at another point. My confidence in the future of TADWA has enabled me to step aside with the knowledge that the organisation is in good shape and in good hands with its Executive Leadership Team. It’s the perfect time to hand over the reins.”
TADWA Board Chair, Bernadine Tucker, thanked Mr Pretzel for his contribution to the organisation and for successfully driving significant business transformation. The Board has appointed a transition consultant to ensure a seamless change of leadership and the process for recruiting a replacement CEO will commence shortly.
